Magda Ibrahim: An Egyptian Elderly Woman Faces Prison and Torture Over Complaints About Price Hikes

At 66 Years Old: "Magda Ibrahim" Begins Her Second Year in Prison for Criticizing Price Hikes and Suffers from Lack of Medical Care in Detention.

Magda Ibrahim Hammouda has entered her second year in prison after being arrested from her home on April 10, 2023, following the publication of a video on social media in which she criticized rising prices in Egypt.

Magda, aged 66, is married and suffers from chronic health issues due to her advanced age, making her unfit for detention.

After her arrest, she was forcibly disappeared for three days, during which she endured severe torture before appearing before the Supreme State Security Prosecution on April 13, 2023, as part of Case No. 641 of 2023 (Supreme State Security Prosecution).

She is facing charges of spreading false news that harms national security and criticizing state policies on social media.

These charges are considered "fabricated," as her detention is directly linked to the video she posted criticizing rising prices.

Due to prison conditions, the lack of proper medical care, and the systematic violation of human rights, Magda’s health has significantly deteriorated during her time in detention. She has not received the necessary medical treatment despite her urgent need for continuous medical follow-up.

Magda suffers from multiple age-related health issues, which have worsened due to harsh detention conditions and the prison administration’s refusal to provide her with proper treatment.
