A Soul Out of Place: The Torment of Living Among Opposites - Egypt's Military Service

My Military Service Has Ended, But.. I Cannot Be Happy !

My military service has ended, and the period of my compulsory conscription—this unjust imposition—can be summarized by this verse:

"I will surely punish him with a severe punishment, or slaughter him unless he brings me clear evidence". (Surah An-Naml, Verse 21 - The Holy Quran)

In the book "Shu'ab al-Iman" by Imam al-Bayhaqi, it is said: "The narrowest prisons are the company of opposites".

The "opposites" here refers to those who differ from you in thought and whose interests conflict with yours.

Among the interpretations of the verse recounting what the hoopoe said to Prophet Solomon (peace be upon him):

"I will surely punish him with a severe punishment, or slaughter him

Some scholars have also explained that one form of punishment Solomon (peace be upon him) intended was separating the hoopoe from its mate, for losing loved ones is a kind of exile. Being separated from one’s beloved or companion is a form of intense torment that is almost unbearable.

Living in an environment that clashes with your aspirations, interests, and inclinations is indeed a severe form of torment. It may sometimes be a necessary evil due to the harsh realities of life and its unkind circumstances. However, if the opportunity arises to escape, run as far as your legs can take you.

The harshest suffering of the soul is to be imprisoned among those who are not like it. To exist among worlds that neither understand you nor are understood by you is one of the gravest forms of anguish.

"One of life’s harshest ironies for a free soul is to find an enemy he has no choice but to befriend".

My Military Service Has Ended, But.. I Am Still Hold The Military Status Until 2032 and Can Be Recalled for Service at Any Time.

I cannot be happy because I am not free until 2032.
